Today Is, "Straight From Your Gay Best Friend" Advice Day...

This week I have three letters from three different women asking about men and sex. They want to know why if they do, or don’t, put out, why won’t the man return their calls.

Well, I got some answers, so check them out:

First Letter:

Dear Gay Best Friend,

I met someone on-line a month ago. We talk on the phone everyday, but I have only been over his house one time. While I was there he was very affectionate and really touchy. I liked it because he is an attractive man. I just felt good having someone like him be into me.

When I brought up the subject of our relationship, he made it clear that he was only going to be my friend. I looked stupid because I finally met a guy who I felt I would love to be with. I understand, but I want to be with him because he is always there for me, and I think if he’s like this as my friend just imagine how he would make me feel if we were together. I just want to know why was he touching me like that and why does he practically take care of me if we are only just going to be friends? – I Want More

Second Letter:

Dear Gay Best Friend,

How do you get over the regrets of meeting a guy, sleeping with him, and then getting dumped? I hate it. This happened to me and I should of known better, but I it didn’t and now I have such big regrets. I thought this guy was the one and that he was real and he wanted more than just sex. Well, I was had. I’m not a young girl who hangs out in the clubs or bars in hopes of meeting someone. I meet this guy on-line and I thought we had a real connection. Ha, the only connection we had was the sex, and once that was over so was the so-called connection. Now, this guy gave me a key to his place and I used it, but that has no meaning behind it whatsoever. He still won’t take my calls and I stop trying.

I feel like an ass. Yes, I do. I kept telling myself to be careful and not to move too fast. In fact, I thought we had not, but it still happened. I figured he was different, but a man is a man is a man. If they want sex, they will seek you out, and get what they need and move on. So, here I sit once again alone wondering if it’s even worth it to try dating again. I hate how I feel right now and I can’t stand looking at myself. I feel so damn stupid for thinking this guy was different. Where is the rule book for the ladies to do this to guys? It sucks to feel this way, and I’m telling you that I am finished with dating.

I don’t want any silly responses. I would like some real advice. I am not a kid and I really regret what I have done, all in the name of being with someone. I’m very, very upset that I got used like this. You will be right when you read this and tell me the truth. This keeps happening to me and no matter what I do or how long I wait I still give off the cheap date vibe. – Regretting My Dating Decisions

Third Letter:

Dear Gay Best Friend,

I met a guy from out of town and he came to take me out on a date. He lives about 2 hours away. I allowed him to stay the night, but nothing happened. Even though he tried. I asked him if he liked me and he said yes. Then I said if you like me you would wait until the right time and not rush into sex. He said that he respected that and put his arm around me went to sleep. Before he left the next day he said he enjoyed being in my company and would call me later that day. Well, it’s been a week and I haven’t heard from him. I made one call to him and got no response. Then I made two more calls and still have not gotten any response. What Should I Do?

Today Is, "He Can Get It" Wednesday: Chris...

Happy Wednesday. This week’s featured “He Can Get It Model,” is a svelte and sexy talent from the South. Meet twenty-year old, Chris from Ormond Beach(Daytona Beach), Florida. This handsome sexy young man is a full-time student at Santa Monica College majoring in Mass Communication. He also runs track for his school.

Chris was discovered by a local photographer, Michael Maddox, in his hometown a little less than two years ago. Since then, he has been signed by Jai Gutierrez, CEO, Legacy Model Management.

I asked Chris what he looks for in a woman and he said, “Besides beauty, of course brains. But, a women that can be herself around me at all times and is comfortable with herself. And, she is also my best-friend. I believe a friendship is the foundation to a relationship.” This young man has some wisdom and common sense.

In his down time, Chris said he loves listening to slow jams. He also said, “Besides staying in shape and working out, I love hanging out with my loved ones, and of course living life going out to parties, clubs, and other social gatherings. And, whenever there’s music you’ll catch me doing a move or two!” I am certain there are some young ladies who would like to cut a rug with Chris.

An Interview With "The Grio"...

Check out this interview I did with The Grio about Gays and Hip Hop:

Is being gay in hip-hop trapped in the closet?

By Ronda Racha Penrice
9:02 AM on 06/17/2010

It shouldn't come as a surprise that female rapper Nicki Minaj, the "first lady" of incarcerated rapper Lil Wayne's Young Money Entertainment, hip-hop's latest mainstream success, has been hit with lesbian/bisexual rumors. After all, appearing on song and in video with Usher arranging a ménage á trois for him in "Lil Freak" provides plenty of fuel to the fire. The pressure she's received from some factions to come out of the closet as evidenced by Natalie Stein's December 9, 2009 "Sapphic Salon" blog post for Bitch, a magazine that's prided itself on being the "feminist response to pop culture" for more than a decade now, is a bit more unusual, however.

Twenty years ago, it would have been almost unfathomable for any group to insist publicly that a female celebrity, let alone a rapper, come out of the closet. Yet, Minaj has received quite a bit of criticism for not publicly announcing her sexual preference. Despite also appearing in a previous ménage á trois song, "Girls Kissing Girls" from her own 2009 mixtape Beam Me Up Scott featuring recently released Atlanta-area rapper Gucci Mane, Minaj has generally refused to address her sexuality, even when baited by well-known hip-hop figures like DJ Whoo Kid. Times have certainly changed but does the curiosity surrounding Nicki Minaj's sexuality mean that hip-hop, often singled out for its homophobia, is also changing with them?

Now, let's be clear. Hip-hop has been a fan of girls-on-girls action for some time now. T.I. bragged about "chillin' with women who like women," among other things, on his 2004 hit "Let's Get Away". For most, "My girl got a girlfriend" is the most memorable line from Grand Hustle rapper Dro's 2006 chart-topping, debut single "Shoulder Lean". Even when there are no lyrics specifically pointing to bisexuality among women, it's still depicted in many videos.

When it comes to women sexually exploring other women, hip-hop has generally accepted such behavior, encouraged it even, on the condition that those women still engage in sex with men. Lesbians often present another problem. Women who love women only are considered "gay" while women who sometimes dabble in sex with women are considered freaks. Same-sex loving men or, even worse, bisexual men, are not even in the conversation.

Over the years, hip-hop's homophobia has spilled over into the mainstream. Eminem's The Marshall Mathers LP drew protests from GLAAD for such songs as "Criminal" and "Kill You" where words like "fags" don't go unnoticed. In the midst of the controversy, Eminem performed with Elton John at the 2001 Grammys as GLAAD members protested outside.

But Eminem's actions aren't as contradictory as they appear. If there's any industry that thrives on a "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy, it's the music industry, especially hip-hop. Two years ago, Terrance Dean had the industry on edge when his memoir, Hiding in Hip-Hop: On the Down Low in the Entertainment Industry - from Music to Hollywood was released. Although rumored to resemble Karrine Steffans's explosive 2005 book Confessions of a Video Vixen, Dean's book didn't name names. Instead Dean, who once worked for BET and MTV, used fictional names that led to a guessing game, especially among urban bloggers.

Still Dean's book exposed a side of the industry that few had envisioned. He did erase all doubts about whether there were indeed gay rappers. Knowing that gay or bisexual rappers with mainstream appeal exist and waiting for them to come out is another thing. Dean does not believe that the industry will allow this to happen any time soon.

"You have to realize there's a lot of pressure from the inside, from the label, because the label knows as well. When I say everyone knows in the industry, everybody knows in the industry," he told theGrio.

Today Is, "He Can Get It" Wednesday: Branden...

It’s chocolate Wednesday! Yes, that’s right, “He Can Get It” Wednesday is featuring some mocha chocolate for your sweet tooth.

This week’s sexy chocolate morsel of a man is 21-year old Branden Mitch. He was born in Belflower, California but raised in Ontario, California.

Branden’s modeling career started four months ago when one day he was sitting at home thinking whether or not if he wanted to continue playing football, or start pursuing his modeling and acting career. So, he decided that his heart wasn’t in football like it was before and he decided it was time to take a leap. He made a couple of calls and got in contact with a local photographer and started doing some shoots. Then another photographer, Hasson Harris, saw some of his photos and Branden’s career went into overdrive, and he hasn’t looked back since. Thank goodness!

When Branden is not modeling he works part-time in retail and he is also in school. He plans to transfer to Cal State Los Angeles and get his B.A. in psychology. He then plans to obtain his doctorate in psychology.

Today Is, "Straight, From Your Gay Best Friend" Advice Day....

Happy Friday!

I hope everyone is ready for the weekend. It’s going to be Beautiful so get out and have fun.

And, to set your weekend off, it’s “Straight, From Your Gay Best Friend,” Advice Day. I have two letters from two different women who met men online, but are curious to know where the relationship is going. Check out the letters and chime in with your great feedback!

Dear Gay Best Friend,

I met a guy, “Phil,” online six months ago and he seemed really nice. We spent a lot of time together. We went out to restaurants and spent time at my house. Phil has met my family and friends and I have met his family and friends. He is even great with my two boys. Phil is a Christian and very much saved, which is not a problem. The only problem I am having is how long do I have to wait for a title to be placed on what we are? How long do I wait for any physical contact — even a kiss? Or, how do I even know if he is actually interested? My gut tells me that he isn’t interested, but whenever I decide to delete him from my life he comes around or calls. Please help! — Hanging on

Second Letter:

Dear Gay Best Friend,

I am 18-years old and the dude, “Chris,” I am talking to is 28-years old. I met him on BLACKPLANET. When we finally met in person, everything was going toooo fast. I started to stay the night at his house every week and we became very sexual with each other. The weirdest thing I noticed about Chris was he kept trying to get me pregnant (he doesn’t have any kids). Chris kept trying to make me move in with him and he was trying to marry me. He’s a very sweet guy, and he’s an officer in the military, but I just don’t know what to do because I still care about this man. Although I feel like it’s kind of strange for him to want all that in a short period of time. – Much Too Soon

Today Is, "He Can Get It" Wednesday: Darrick...

Well, they say there are some BIG things in Texas, and this week’s featured “He Can Get It” model is the reason that statement is true.

Ladies, meet 25-year old sexy and dangerously BIG man, Darrick Bledsoe.

Born by the river, The Brazos, in Waco, TX, Darrick, was raised in the city until 1999 when his family moved to Arlington, TX, where he currently resides.

The charming Texan gent was discovered as a model in 2004, believe it or not, by his sons mother. She was a scout for a local modeling agency and she encouraged Darrick to go to an open call. He was hand-picked to be represented by the agency, however, he was scammed out of hundreds of dollars. This discouraged Darrick for a while. He took five years off to regroup and with lots of support he decided to give it another go. Since his return to the modeling scene his sexy good looks, and svelte muscular body has been shot by various top photographers for many websites. Darrick’s look has graced many urban pages as well as implied artistic nudes. “They like my body,” Darrick said. I am certain there are lots of women who will agree.

You can read and see more of Darrick, here:

My Book, "Hiding In Hip Hop," Inspires A Down Low Character for Grand Theft Auto...

So, I've recently discovered that my book, "Hiding In Hip Hop," is the inspiration for a gaming character, Clay Jackson, for the Grand Theft Auto series. Hmmm, what say you?

Clay Jackson, also known as "The Pain Giver" or even "PG", is a famous gangster rapper in the GTA IV era.

In 2008, he has one or more commercially successful albums to speak of, and is releasing his next entitled Love Isn't A Crime. He has unsuccessfully tried his hand at acting (one paparazzi shouts at him during the Hercules incident "how does it feel to be the worst actor in America, Clay?"). Rumors of his homosexuality also surfaced, and he had been spotted before with his blonde male boyfriend Jacob (as seen on The Celebinator's blog).

He is seen in person during the Club Management side missions, in which Luis is tasked with going to Hercules, rescuing Clay and his boyfriend Jacob (hiding from paparazzi inside his tinted PMP 600), and driving them back to the Majestic Hotel. In one conversation, he is heavily in denial by first saying "I'm not Clay! In fact, I can't stand him!", then insisting that he was only auditioning male dancers for his next music video. In an alternate conversation he is much calmer and more social with Luis, explaining that he and Jacob are also business partners, he is planning to buy Jacob expensive sneakers from Japan (a reference to BAPE, an extremely high-end urban clothing line from Japan) and even offers to invite Luis into the hotel suite, saying he looks lonely.

His closeted sexuality is inspired by the book Hiding in Hip-Hop by Terrance Dean, which suggests that many prominent black male actors, singers and rappers were secretly gay.

Jackson is voiced by Brooklyn rapper Poison Pen.

We've Got To Support Black Films, and Projects...

This is why it's so important to support Black films, actors, actresses, directors, producers, and writers! We've got to put our dollars behind projects that represent us and speaks to us! What do you all think?

Fox Searchlight tweaks its urban efforts

June 3, 2010
6:19 pm

EXCLUSIVE: Much as Lionsgate makes the urban-comedy business look easy (with the help of one Tyler Perry), the reality is it's actually pretty difficult.

The latest company to learn the lesson, and prove the point, is Fox Searchlight. The specialty division is -- at least for the moment, according to sources -- pulling back from its foray into black-themed films after a pair of middling results. Most notably, the company has decided to put into turnaround "Baggage Claim," a story of a thirtysomething flight attendant's search for Mr. Right that was to star Taraji P. Henson.

"Baggage Claim" was based on the novel from, had the imprimatur of, and was to be written and directed by one David E. Talbert, known as the original Tyler Perry (like Perry -- in fact, before Perry -- he worked the so-called Chitlin' Circuit of black-oriented theaters in the South, and also wrote and directed the 2008 film hit "First Sunday"). "Baggage Claim" was thought to hold plenty of promise, with a built-in fan base among a core black audience as well a compelling premise that could cross over to a wider audience.

But sources say that a series of underperformers has given Searchlight pause. Most recently, the company's Queen Latifah vehicle "Just Wright" and Forest Whitaker marital comedy "Our Family Wedding" drew only sparse audiences, each grossing only about $20 million at the domestic box office this spring. So Zola Mashariki, the Searchlight executive who had specialized in films in that vein, will now shift her orientation to other types of projects, according to sources.

Fox Searchlight executives acknowledged the difficulties but contested the notion that it had made any kind of strategic shift. "I think there's no question the market is more challenging," Searchlight co-president Steve Gilula said in an interview. "That being said, we've had great success with a number of movies in this category. There's no fundamental strategic shift and we're not walking away from black-oriented films."

Today Is, "Read A Book" Thursday...

Hello Beautiful People!

I am very excited as this week launches a new venture with my column, ”Read A Book” Thursday. I am proud to share that each week I will be joined by the lovely Nakea Murray, a popular blog talk radio personality with 3 Chicks On Lit, and founder of As The Page Turns Book Club, as we bring weekly book reviews in our column called, “He Said, She Said.” We will give our take on the featured book of the week. Nakea will bring her sassiness and wisdom from her 10+ years of literary coverage. And, of course, I will bring my witty and savvy commentary.

Also, each month we will share our top ten Hot Book Picks. This list will feature books from every genre – romance, street lit, chick lit, literature, and sci-fi. Yes, we’re going to feature the most anticipated sizzling new books as well as those that keep people talking. We are going to give authors a place where their works can shine, and a place where readers can feed their insatiable reading appetites.

Lastly, if you are an author, or if you know an author who should have their book reviewed for our “He Said, She Said” column, then send us an email to: hesaidshesaidreviews@yahoo.com – Once you send an email of the book to be reviewed you will receive a response with the submissions guidelines.

With that, please check out our, ”He Said, She Said,” review of basketball icon, Shaquille O’Neal’s mother, Lucille O’Neal. In her new book, Walk Like You Have Somewhere To Go (Thomas Nelson – March, 2010; $22.99) O’Neal candidly describes the pain of being an outcast and the stigma of becoming an unwed, teenage mother. Most interestingly, she candidly shares another side of fame and fortune-a side rarely revealed or admitted in public: her unexpected feelings of anger and resentment towards her son’s blinding success.

Chapter Excerpt From My New Book, "Visible Lives" - Check It Out...

I am so thrilled and excited to share with you all my new book, “Visible Lives: Three Stories In Tribute To E. Lynn Harris” (Dafina Books – May 2010) . “Visible Lives” is a literary tribute to my friend and mentor, the late E. Lynn Harris.

I am sharing a chapter excerpt from my novella, The Intern, on my website. I am inviting you all to please check it out, HERE -  http://www.mrterrancedean.com/visible_lives_chapter_excerpt.html

New York Times Best-selling author E. Lynn Harris passed away in July of 2009. His novels about successful and glamorous black men with sexual identity conflicts, and the women and men who love them, made him one of the nation’s most popular writers. My own explosive debut memoir entitled Hiding In Hip Hop: On the Down Low in the Entertainment Industry – from Music to Hollywood (Atria/ Simon & Schuster May 2008) positioned me as one of the entertainment industry’s most talked about authors of late. I bravely unmasked the deep secrets of a prominent gay sub-culture within not only the entertainment community, but within the confines of Hip Hop, Hiding in Hip Hop became the runaway sensation of the year.

“Visible Lives” is a powerful tribute to the late Harris in which three authors present new novellas in the genre E. Lynn helped to create. I conceived the idea and concept for the tribute book, “Visible Lives” and enlisted the contributions of fellow authors Stanley Bennett Clay and James Earl Hardy.

In “Visible Lives,” readers are introduced to three novellas House of John by Stanley Bennett Clay; The Intern by Terrance Dean; and Is it Still Jood to Ya by James Earl Hardy.

In House of John, Jesse Templeton is a thirty-eight year old freelance photographer still reeling from a recent breakup with his live-in boyfriend Sean. He thinks he’s done with love -that is until finds he starts falling for a gorgeous local at an annual sex retreat in Santo Domingo. In The Intern, workaholic television executive Chase Kennedy finds himself drawn to the office’s new intern, sexy college student and basketball star Quincy Thornberry. Things couldn’t be going better until Chase learns that Quincy’s father may be the man he lost both his virginity and his heart to years prior. Lastly in Is It Still Jood to Ya?, actor Raheim Rivers is anxious to be reunited with his lover Mitchell Crawford after being away a long time. Uncertain about the future of their relationship, Raheim and Mitchell are forced to confront their issues and each other when a summer blackout strands them together in New York.

I thank you all again for your continued support and love. I hope you will go to your local bookstores today and purchase your copy of “Visible Lives.” You can also order a copy, HERE -
http://www.amazon.com/Visible-Lives-Stories-Tribute-Harris/dp/0758255756/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1275424812&sr=1-1

It is a befitting tribute to an icon in the literary world. Also, I am looking forward to meeting everyone and signing your books at some of the select booksignings across the country. Help us celebrate the legacy of my great friend, E. Lynn Harris. I know he is smiling at the beauty of it all!
